Victoria Era.

This week we have been learning about the Victorian era. The Victorian era was based on Queen Victoria's time. Our first activity was to choose one of the task from Victorian time and Ofa, Mataio and I decided to choose to research about the Children working in factories. We researched about this because we wanted learn how life was hard for children back in the Victorian times. I found out that kids who are age 5 to 6 and are skinny would have to climb to the chimney and clean all the yuck chemicals. In my perspectives we are lucky because back in the Victorian time if the kids spoke to each other they were smacked, but in nowadays we don't get smack for doing bad things in schools. Some of the kids doing the chimney sweep had rotten teeth because of the chemicals. After this activity we were to draw a steampunk which was based on the Victorian era. A steampunk is when modern technology is mixed with technology back in the Victorian times. I have drawn a owl that has a hat and a google that is on the hat. Our last task was to make a DLO based on what steampunk art is and facts about it as well. I really enjoyed all activity especially drawing the steampunk.

PBS Athletics Field Day 2018

Today PBS had Athletics Field Day. It was kindly set by some of the Tamaki College students. Their 9 different stations courses.  The activity we did was a game that was inside the hall where there can only be on tagger from each team. And you had to get as much as possible tennis balls to put back on your side. This event is about showing sportsmanship and teamwork. After completing those tiring 9 stations.. At 12:30 we had our sausage sizzles. And the end of the day the races were on at the track field. I hope will get a nice rest, because there were many of running around and noise.

Book Week Challenges - What signs are needed in a Library?

Today I did an DLO on what signs are needed in a Library. I chose wisely about important signs. The most important sign in my DLO is probably the No smoking. Because you have to think about the childrens that are inside the library. It can spread germs and disease. It can also make kids faint and sick. This is probably the worst way to get sick and get germs. All of these signs are needed in the Library to take care of our community and our Environment. I completed this on myself, because I can focus a lot better without anyone distracting and taking me off task.

Book Week Challenges - Alphabet Key - Authors and Books

As part of Book Week. We have this thing called the Matrix. Its where you choose any of the activity to do with a Buddy or by yourself. Today i completed an Alphabet key on Authors and Books. It was easy to find the picture books but it was very hard to find authors because there are not that many authors in the world. I worked on this on my own, because I knew it would easier to be focused on the work instead of getting distracted by your buddy.

For Te reo Maori, today I created a poster that shows a Maori names of fruits. While doing this activity I learnt some of the fruit names in Maori. Some of them sounds the same in Maori. The task was to just use the Maori name so we can understand by looking at the photos. I completed my work with Joshua W.

Read Theory - Analysis

This graph show my progress through 2018. As you can see at the beginning of the year I started off at level 2. And in the middle of the year which would likely be July, I got up to level 3. And currently now in November i have 3. I am still trying my best to reach at least 7 at the end of the year.

Book Week Challenges - Facts about meercats

We had to make an DLO on Meekats. On this DLO i worked collaborativey with Jericho and Julian. All we had to do is research some facts about meerkats, and a image of an meerkat. What shocked is that Meekats Sleep and hunt together because i thought they hunt alone by themselves. I really enjoyed doing this activity because i really wanted to learn a lot more about meerkats.

Book week Challenge - Wolves Emily Gravett.

As part of our book week we created a DLO about Wolves by Emily Gravett.  All we had to do is do a t - chart that explains what we think about wolves , and what we think about wolves. We had to research if our own thoughts were true or not true. And i also decided to research about the author Emily Gravett, and her book Wolves. It was really interesting reading her book Wolves, because it sure hooked me to the story.

Bar Graph - What Makes A Book Boring?

As part of book week, we have been gathering information about what make a book boring. We joined as a class and rotated around the room answering questions on a paper. We would then use Google spread sheet and create a graph, showing what makes a book boring. We have found out that most people find a book boring due to the unattractive pictures and Vocabulary. I worked collaboratively with, Jericho, Savelina, and Hajera.

Length & Width of Book

This week is Book Challenge Week. Me and Jericho have decided to create a DLO on the width and length of a book. We have chosen three random books and measured them. We have noticed that each book has 19cm of length

Today I have made a DLO on three types of books we would never read... Although we had to give a explanation of why we wouldn't. In the end we decided on Sport, Drama and cook books.

Venn Diagram

Today i have made an DLO on Making an Venn Diagram and Compare 2 books as part of book week. I chose the do World Rugby Records and Captain Underpants. I worked by myself on this activity.

Book Week - History of Book in my Life

This week we have been celebrating Book Week because this week is the Book Week. This was the first challenge that we have given. The challenge was to make a DLO that shows a time line of the books that I have been reading. My favourite book is Diary of a wimpy kid because it is very interesting and hooks me in very much.

Armistice day

Today Panmure Bridge held a commemoration for Armistice Day since it is on Sunday. Armistice day which is every year on November the 11th to mark and remember the sign between the Allies of World War 1 and when the gun fell silent. We celebrate this to remember those who fought for their country during World War 1. We were lucky to have a member from the NZ Defense Force. During this commemoration we I read the pray at the start of the commemoration, Tiava and Jeremiah (head boy and head girl) read the oath, and Ms Kirkpatrick (deputy principal) read In Flanders Field. During the commemoration we were silent for a minute to remember the soldiers who died during World War 1. There was also 3 olive tree to represent the past, present, and future. We also played the Last Post which is where we were silent for a minute. After our commemoration we had the member from the NZ defense force speak to us. It was really nice to learn all about world war 1 and all other things about the army force.

Finding Area In a Fiction Book

Today Ponui and Pakatoa reading groups were finding out all the different part of a non - fiction book, such as, Tittle, Index, and Subtitle. We read a book on Mapopraphica facts. As a whole group we had to find the right place to put the arrow on. I enjoyed doing this activity because it helped me learn where all the right things are.  We all communicated to each other to figure out the right spot on the book. When some people got it wrong we all helped that person out so that they can know where it is. I got 2 answers wrong, and thanks to everyone for helping me get the right answer.

Spaghetti Bridge Testing

For the past few weeks Ms Kirkpatrick's inquiry group have been constructing their bridges out of spaghetti pasta. In the beginning everything was pretty easy until the weeks started flying by and the assignment was nearly due. It was also difficult because of the limited supplies. The limited supplies forced all the groups to trade with one and other to get the project done. Zane, Coree and I built a cantilever bridge that was only able to hold one brick. The original design was too difficult to execute so we simplified it. If we had added more triangles or cross braces our bridge would have been able to hold more bricks. The total span of our bridge was 42 centimetres making it the second longest bridge. Sanujan, Jack, and Jericho had constructed a bridge that was able to hold six bricks in total. It was hilarious to see the bridges break and some of the designs were amazing. Personally I think that we had the best looking bridge and was only rivaled by Nyjah's. This has taught me that we should always look at strengthening the deck and to never become an architect.

CARE Award - Respect | Researching The Song Respect

Today I completed another task for my respect CARE award, CARE stands for Confidence, Attitude, Respect and Excellence and Innovation. For it I needed to research interesting facts about Aretha Franklin's song Respect. Along the way I found many new and interesting things like for example; the song's been used in the movie Forrest Gump, although I've watched it I never noticed the song

Tech Reflection - Decorative Letters|Names

We are three weeks into our new orientation at Tamaki College and we have finished our name art. They are different because we did them in decorative letters for example instead of writing an 'I' I did a candle. Mr Pineda (Tech teacher) has laminated it for us and they look great. I drew some patterns from my culture because it is my culture.

Duffy assembly

Today Panmure Bridge had their Term 3 Duffy Assembly. We had two special guest Campbell from Main freight and our special visitor Michel Mulipola. If you don't who he is, he is a comic book illustrations. It was surprising to hear that he was a professional wrestler, and a semi-professional tekken gamer. He came to tell us about his life story and what he does as a career. I was shocked to hear that he was a semi-professional tekken gamer. He was also here to give out our Duffy Books. The second photo above is a picture he has illustrated for the book Fanene Peter Maivia (Son Of Samoa). The photo is Dwayne Johnson's grandfather. In this book it talks about how Peter Maivia is wrestling for the world title in Samoa, Apia. In my perspectives I think Michel has illustrated this character amazingly. We all thank him for what he had done today and hope he comes again. I would also like to thank Campbell from Main freight who came today and our two librarians who sorted out our library books

Kiwi Can

Today for Kiwi can we were focusing on our topic perseverance. Perseverance is when you don't bother doing something but you need to keep trying and never giving up. Everyone in the world will have a time when they be through perseverance.  First thing we did was we talked about this topic and how this could help us in the future or in school. For our enegiser we played a game called named strangle. It is when you grab each other hand and make a line until everyone is tagged. And then at last we played our activity which was invisible touch. The game play goes like rugby touch but without no ball. Even though some people loss, they did not give up and tried again.

Basic facts boxes

Mr Wong created a fun math challenge for us. It was about fun facts up to 100. There were two strategies, which was addition and subtraction. I only got to do the addition part because i still have work to finish off. Maybe another available time i can do the subtraction part. I used my place value strategy to work out the addition fun facts. This really helped me with my learning.

Whare Hauora Blessing

Panmure Bridge School is the home of New Zealand's first Medicube. The purpose of this new building is to make sure that children are fit for school and that they get a sense of focus so that they do not worry about getting sick. Our nurses will carry on doing a good job and making sure we are healthy. Like every new building at Panmure Bridge School the Maori blessing took place early in the morning and as we are in kapahaka, we were asked to perform a waiata and represent our school. Our waita was He Honore which was a nice soft waiata that we sang to with just an acoustic guitar. We were all proud of our efforts and it was a honour to partake in this event. The Kaumatua went around the medicube blessing the building in Maori. We all followed the visitors into the medicube looking at the space the health nurses will be working in.

Note Making - Buildings and Structures

At the beginning of our learning of buildings and structures we wrote down what we knew about what they are and what their purpose is. The questions we were asked were what is a structure, who is involved what materials is it made out of, and famous examples. Their were a lot of famous examples as we hear about them fairly regularly. At the start we did not have a good understanding of what they are and we are now using that as foundation so that we can add more information.

Similarities & Differences - Auckland Viaduct Harbour bridge & Golden Gate Bridge

Today we have created a Venn diagram which compare and contrasts the similarities and differences of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Auckland Viaduct Harbour Bridge. The similarity which most people will not think of is that they are both built in Westernised nations. As Ofa (my partner) and I searched for information we found three similarities and fourteen differences. The Golden Gate Bridge is equal to 27 of New Zealand's viaduct harbour bridges as the viaduct bridge is 330 ft and the Golden Gate Bridge is 8,981 ft.

VR - Virtual Reality

Today is a really fun day, because we are learning using VR and Magic Window. There are some people doing VR and some people doing Magic Window. Me, I use VR to learn about bridges and how they construct them. Thank you Yvonne and her research team for making this possible, it is a very great idea to use VR to learn about bridges. I learn and see lots of things like: how they use punt to cross the river and how Panmure Bridge has made. Yvonne and her research team is from Augmented (AR- Augmented Reality) Human Lab at Auckland University, they work hard so they can give us an experience of Virtual Reality. We also do some test like eye test, 3D shape test and we also have a test that we need to walk in straight line so we can see if we are balance walking in a straight line

Rugby Union Inter School

Yesterday PBS year 5 to year 8 students had Rugby Inter School at the Auckland University rugby ground. We had 2 different teams from our school.

Decimal Maths

Today I created a DLO showing how I solve Decimals question. The question I solved was 7.7 + 62.6. The answer was 9.4. This shows how to solve decimal equations easily by using addition and subtraction. Using this strategy is really easy to do because you just need to use addition and subtraction, I enjoyed learning this strategy. I am looking forward to use the new strategy.

Read theory

This reading theory image shows you my progress on read theory. Read theory is a reading site that helps me develop mine reading knowledge. First you need to read a text and then answer some questions. If you get a answer wrong you will stay on your current level, but if you get everything right you will move a level up. My goal is to achieve my reading skills and go to grade 6 and 8

Tech Food - Hawaiian Pizza

This week Mrs Tuipolotu instructed us to construct our own Hawaiian pizza with our partner. To start, the first person received our pizza bread and spread the tomato paste on top of the bread. While they were doing that the second person then diced the ham, onion, and chicken. When everything was chop,  we spread all the ingredients on the pizza bread. But before we did that we spread the tomato pastry and lay it out on the pizza bread. Once we added all the ingredients we put it in the oven , to bake for 15 minutes, and the oven pre -
heated to 180 degrees.

Sky Tower Trip

Today LS2 and LS1 went on a trip to experience the Sky Tower. We went to the Sky City. We just didn't go to the sky tower to just have fun but we also went to experience different structures. We are also learning about structures and bridges this term in Inquiry. It was my first time being at the sky tower, and i think it was fabulous. I learnt a lot about the sky tower.  I would like say a very big thank you to a kind gentlemen named Douglas Bates, who kindly donated money to our school for room 5, Ls1, and Ls2 to go experience the sky tower. So it is a pleasure to thank you for your kindness. Did you Know? The sky tower weighs 60 thousand elephants. And the sky tower is 220 meters high. We were lucky to go for free if it wasn't for Douglas Bates. I would also like thank Mrs Anderson, Ms Kirkpatrick, Ms Linda, and Mr Dobson.
